The Hindu Succession Act, 1956

India's law of intestate succession among Hindus — who the Act applies to, the daughter's equal share in coparcenary property, the order of heirs of a male and of a female Hindu, class I and class II heirs, agnates and cognates, a woman's absolute ownership of her property, disqualifications, escheat and wills. All 31 sections and the Schedule, with the Karnataka, Kerala and Tamil Nadu State amendments the Act carries.

An Act to amend and codify the law relating to intestate succession among Hindus.

BE it enacted by Parliament in the Seventh Year of the Republic of India as follows:―

India Code's text has no cover date; its latest citations are the Kerala amendment of 2016 and the Jammu and Kashmir Reorganisation Act, 2019. It carries the Hindu Succession (Amendment) Act, 2005 in full and prints the Karnataka, Kerala and Tamil Nadu State amendments under sections 6, 15 and 29.
