What this website is

merasamvidhaan.in is a free, independent website for reading the Constitution of India and thirty-seven other Central Acts, among them the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), the Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam (BSA), the Code of Civil Procedure, 1908, the Indian Contract Act, 1872, the Information Technology Act, 2000 and the Income-tax Acts. Every Article and Section is laid out to be read, searched, and linked to.

It is a reading site and nothing more. There is no account to create, no form to fill in, no comment section, and no feature that asks you for information about yourself.

This policy covers the website only. The Android and iOS apps have their own App Privacy Policy.

Where the text comes from

The statutory text on this site is taken from India Code (indiacode.nic.in), the Government of India's official repository of Central legislation, maintained by the Ministry of Law and Justice. It is not written by us, not paraphrased by us, and not sourced from anywhere else.

The text of a Central Act is public material. What this site adds is presentation: the provisions are structured, cross-referenced, searchable, and readable on a phone. The words of the law itself are reproduced as published.

Where the site shows anything that is not statutory text — a Part summary, a chapter description, an explanatory note — that is our own editorial writing, and it carries no legal weight whatsoever.

No affiliation with the Government

Mera Samvidhaan is an independent project. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, authorised by, or connected in any way to the Government of India, the Parliament of India, the Ministry of Law and Justice, any State Government, or any court, tribunal, or public authority.

No part of this site should be read as an official publication or as carrying any governmental sanction. The only official source of Indian legislation is the Government's own — see Section 2.

Not legal advice

This website provides informational and educational reference material only. Nothing on it is legal advice.

Reading a provision here does not tell you how it applies to your situation. What a section means in a given case depends on facts, on procedure, and on how courts have interpreted it — none of which this site attempts to supply. No lawyer-client relationship is created by using it.

If you are facing a legal question that matters to you, consult a qualified advocate. Do not act, or refrain from acting, on the basis of anything you read here.

Accuracy, and checking it yourself

The text on this site may be wrong. We do not guarantee its accuracy, completeness, or currency, and we accept no responsibility for any loss or consequence arising from reliance on it.

Errors can enter in several ways, and honestly:

• Extraction. The text is processed from its source into this site's format. A processing error can drop a proviso, misplace a clause, or mangle a footnote.
• Amendments. Acts are amended. A provision correct on the day it was captured can be superseded, substituted, or omitted without this site catching up.
• Omissions. Schedules, notifications, state amendments, and commencement dates may be incomplete or absent.

Before relying on any provision, verify it against the official source. India Code (indiacode.nic.in) and the Gazette of India are authoritative; this site is not. Where this site and the Government's text differ, the Government's text is correct and this one is wrong.

What this website collects

From you: nothing we ask for

There is no account and no sign-in, and there is no field anywhere on this site that asks for information about you. We do not ask for, receive, or store your name, email address, phone number, or any other personal detail. The single box on this site that you can type into is the correction form described below, and it asks about the law, not about you.

If you report a problem

Every Article and Section carries a "Report a problem" button. It is the one thing on this website that sends anything anywhere, it does so only when you press Send, and you can read the whole of the law without ever touching it.

When you do use it, what you typed is submitted to a Google Form that we own, used purely as an inbox for corrections. Exactly three things are sent:

• Which provision you were reading — for example "Article 21, Constitution of India". Filled in by the page, not typed by you.
• The note you typed. Only what is in the box when you press Send.
• The version of this website — the number shown at the foot of every page, so we know which text you were looking at.

That is the entire submission. No name, no email address, no account, no identifier for you or your browser, and nothing about what else you read or searched for. The Form is configured not to collect email addresses, so a report reaches us anonymously and we have no way to reply to it or to tell two reports apart.

Because the Form is Google's, Google handles the submission and its servers see the request as they would any other — their processing is governed by the Google Privacy Policy. The reports themselves are read by us and used only to fix the text.

One thing worth saying plainly: the note box sends us whatever you put in it. Please describe the mistake and leave yourself out of it — do not type personal details, and do not paste anything you would rather we did not read. If you want a reply, write to support@merasamvidhaan.in instead, where you are choosing to give us your address.

In your browser: one preference

If you switch between the light and dark theme, that choice is saved in your browser's localStorage under the key ms-theme, so the site looks the same next time. It stays on your device, is never transmitted, and clearing your browser data removes it. That is the only thing this site writes to your browser.

This site sets no cookies, which is also why you are not being asked to accept any.

Automatically: nothing we can see

There is no analytics software, no advertising, no tracking pixel, no social media widget, and no third-party script of any kind on these pages. We receive no report of who visited, what was read, or what was searched for. Searching happens entirely inside your own browser — the query is never sent anywhere.

Nothing on this site transmits by itself. The correction form described above is the only thing that ever sends anything, and only when you press Send.

Our hosting provider

The site is served from Amazon Web Services (Amazon S3 and Amazon CloudFront). As with any web server, CloudFront necessarily handles your IP address in order to deliver the page to you and to rate-limit abusive traffic. We have not enabled access logging, so we hold no record of visits, and AWS's own processing is governed by their privacy notice. If we enable rate limiting or maintenance mode, an AWS WAF firewall in front of the site may keep a small sample of requests, including their IP addresses, for up to three hours so that abusive traffic can be diagnosed; it is not used to identify readers.

Children's privacy

This is a general-audience legal reference site, not directed at children. It collects no personal information from any visitor, so none is collected from children either. Note that the BNS and BNSS material describes criminal offences as codified in statute, which parents and guardians of younger readers may wish to review before use.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, the "Last updated" date at the top of this page changes with it. A material change — a new practice, a new third party, anything that alters what happens to you — will appear here before it takes effect.
