The Legal Services Authorities Act, 1987

India's free legal aid law — the National, State, District and Taluk legal services authorities and committees, the Supreme Court and High Court Legal Services Committees, who is entitled to free legal services (section 12), the National, State and District Legal Aid Funds, accounts and audit, Lok Adalats and the finality of their awards, Permanent Lok Adalats for public utility services, and the rule- and regulation-making powers. An Act to constitute legal services authorities to provide free and competent legal services to the weaker sections of the society to ensure that opportunities for securing justice are not denied to any citizen by reason of economic or other disabilities, and to organize Lok Adalats to secure that the operation of the legal system promotes justice on a basis of equal opportunity.

BE it enacted by the Parliament in the Thirty-eighth Year of the Republic of India as follows:—
